Stages of the population development of Iquique: about the discovery of the act of erection of the municipality of Iquique, in 1879.

Abstract

At the time of the arrival of the conquistadors, the Taraqueño coast was inhabited by Changos Indians, whose main activity was fishing and marine gathering. Apparently, with a few exceptions, they were small nomadic communities, without a specific residence. In this sense, this paper presents the stages of population development in Iquique considering the historical background of the original population that inhabited the region.
