Abstract

Political geography constitutes an important, but at the same time evolving, sector of geography. From the beginnings of modern geography, in the first half of the 19th century, which showed a discipline closely related to other sciences, the area of political geography also benefited mainly from sociology and psychology.  This enrichment manifested itself in continuous conceptual and methodological changes.

The aim of the present study is to examine the essence that characterizes this discipline and the main themes of political geography. The first part of the article deals with the scope and definition of political geography. The second part deals with the main themes that compose it.
